Aventura Police Officer Found Guilty of Illegally Detaining Two Individuals at Gunpoint
An officer with the Aventura Police Department reportedly took two individuals hostage on May 20 and held them hostage according to an arrest warrant, authorities reported.
The couple claimed they stopped by the mall to buy clothes before heading to perform at the Haitian Compas festival in Miami. Once their purchase had been paid for and parked in their car, they noticed an iPhone that wasn’t their own; communication had taken place with Delgado’s wife to return it; when they went back to his Pompano Beach residence to do so however, an officer detained them and pointed a gun in their direction.
After reporting their encounter with Aventura police, an investigation began and on Tuesday a jury found Delgado guilty of his alleged crimes; now, Broward State Attorney’s Office will determine his sentence after eight hours of deliberations among jurors.
Aventura Police Officer Arrested for Kidnapping
An Aventura police officer was arrested Wednesday on multiple felony charges including kidnapping. Court records show David Delgado was booked into jail on seven charges stemming from an incident in May where two individuals filed complaints alleging excessive force by the officer in Pompano Beach.
The couple told authorities that they parked their car at Aventura Mall’s valet to buy clothes for an upcoming performance later that evening, when they discovered their phone had been stolen.
Police were informed by them of how Delgado pulled his gun and roughed them up, handcuffing both himself and another individual in an act that led them to call for help. While not guilty of kidnapping or aggravated assault, a judge found him guilty of engaging in criminal conduct using dangerous weapons (criminal behavior with dangerous weapons) among other misdemeanor charges; released from bond with no further legal recourse, and with his lawyer vowing to appeal the verdict.
